Brainstorming
For this assignment I had to choose a subject matter that allowed me to use photographs and screenshots to create my poster. I couldn't use any existing artwork or designs, it had to be a photograph of a physical object.
I chose to do the poster about the videogame Journey. Since Journey is a video game I couldn't use any screenshots or artwork from the game in my final piece and had to look for photographs of action figures and toys.
Concept

Journey Official Box Art
I decided to create a poster that featured the game's title scene: the game's main character (the Traveller) standing in a desert on top of a sand dune, looking at a mountain in the background obstructed by clouds.
In my poster this scene would be contained inside the outline of the main character facing the screen.
This poster concept would be for a Collector's Edition of the game with a more elegant style then the game's original box art.
Information Gathering and Image Collection
I had to source pictures of Journey character's action figures and clouds, mountains and desert vistas. I used Adobe Stock and Pinterest to source the pictures.
I used screenshots of the game as inspiration to find images that matched the feel of the game. I had to find specific mountains, deserts and sand dunes that evoked the game's graphics and art style.

Pictures of the main character's action figures had to follow specific poses I wanted to feature in the poster, one facing the camera and one facing away from the camera. They also had to be of good enough quality to use in the final poster.
I decided to do two versions of the character: the white Traveller with a big scarf you get when you complete the game and the version you start the game with, the red Traveller with a small scarf.

I also found a font online that resembled the font used by the game's title.
Poster Creation
After finding all necessary images I started putting the poster together on Photoshop.
Since most of the images were real life photos of mountains, clouds and deserts I had to use filters and color overlays to make them resemble the video game's graphics and art style. The action figures photos had to also be edited to not resemble toys.

Photoshop Layers
The poster's final layout was done to simulate movement and depth. It took inspiration from some of the game's artwork and art made by fans.
